Overview
Deck builder is a game pattern built to bring a more interactive and gamified experience to our 9th - 12th students. With this pattern we make learning and courses more enjoyable.
Challenge
When Deck builder was built it didn't meet the designers or expectations of the Course Product Designers. With a tight deadline and a desire from leadership to implement the game into our courses, we had to work to deliver a game that we felt much more confident pushing.

Review the original design
To start off this project Jason and I began by reviewing the original design. We laid out he flow and reviewed the pros and cons of the original Deck Builder.

Proposing new concepts for discussion and ideas
Once Jason and I had a good idea around how we could improve Deck Builder we then moved into conceptual work. We presented this work to the larger design team and started a much larger discussion.

Layout Refinement
After review we found that another course team was also going to be implementing this game in their course as well. So, Kenny, Jason, and I worked together to design and refine what the new Deck Builder experience would be.

Leading the creative direction
During this phase I led our visual design team, by providing creative by offering feedback, providing direction for ideas, and providing autonomy the design team shined and brought forth some amazing ideas.

Final Design and Impact
When finalized Deck Builder was a big win for our team. From where it started to where it ended it showed that we could push our limits from an engineering and design side. This also pushed us to explore and begin larger talks about gaming patterns we could pursue in courses.
